Pharmacological effect Levomycetin:

Broad-spectrum. The antimicrobial mechanism is associated with disruption of protein synthesis in the microbial cell during the transfer of amino acids and RNA to ribosomes. It has a bacteriostatic effect. Active in Gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp.; gram-negative bacteria: Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Klebsiella spp., Serratia spp., Yersinia spp., Proteus spp., Rickettsia spp.; is also active on Spirochaetaceae, some major viruses.

Chloramphenicol is active against strains resistant to penicillin, streptomycin, sulfanilamides.

The resistance of microorganisms to chloramphenicol is relatively slow.

Testimony Chloramphenicol:

  • For outdoor use: in the second phase of the wound process 
  • (absence of pus, necrotic tissues), long-term unhealing trophic ulcers, burns of the II-III degree.

Method of use, course and dosage Levomycetin:

When applied externally, apply to gauze tampons or directly to the affected area. On top of the usual bandage, you can with parchment or compression paper. Dressings are produced depending on the readings after 1-3 days, sometimes after 4-5 days.

Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding
Chloramphenicol is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).

Side Effect:

Local reactions: itching, redness, skin manifestations of allergic reactions, angioneurotic edema.

Contraindications for use
Increased sensitivity to chloramphenicol, bone marrow hemorrhage, acute intermitting porphyria, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, liver and/or kidney failure, pregnancy, lactation period; psoriasis, eczema, fungal skin lesions; Phase I of the wound process (due to lack of osmotic activity).

Careful

Early childhood, patients treated with cytostatic drugs Levomycetin or radiation therapy.

Special Instructions
Chloramphenicol is not used in newborns, as it may develop "grey syndrome" (flatulence, nausea, hypothermia, grey-blue skin color, progressive cyanosis, dyspnoea, cardiovascular failure).

Patients treated with cytostatic drugs Levomycetin or radiotherapy are treated with caution.

The treatment process requires systematic monitoring of the peripheral blood pattern.

The uncontrolled use of chloramphenicol and its use in light forms of infectious processes, especially in children's practice, is unacceptable.

Application for kidney disorders
It is contraindicated application in case of severe disorders of kidney function.

Use in liver disorders
It is contraindicated in cases of pronounced liver dysfunctions.

Application in elderly patients
Use with caution in elderly patients to avoid exacerbation of chronic diseases.

Use in children
