Pharmacological properties OTRIVIN complex:
Xylometazoline belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with alpha-adrenomimetic action, it causes narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating edema and hyperemia of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Relieves congestion by facilitating nasal breathing with rhinitis.
Ipratropium bromide has an anticholinergic effect. When used intranasally, it reduces nasal secretion, stopping the flow from the nose due to competitive inhibition of cholinergic receptors located in the epithelium of the OTRIVIN nasal cavity.
In therapeutic concentrations, it does not irritate the mucous membrane, does not cause its hyperemia.
The drug begins to act in 5-10 minutes and has a lasting effect for 6-8 hours.
OTRIVIN complex
Indications for use OTRIVIN complex:
- symptomatic treatment of edema and hyperemia of the nasal cavity
- acute respiratory diseases with symptoms of rhinitis (rhinitis), accompanied by congestion
- acute allergic rhinitis
- hay fever;
- sinusitis.
Mode of application OTRIVIN complex:
Intranasally.
For patients over the age of 18: 1 injection into each nasal passage 3 times / day. The interval between repeated use should be at least 6 hours. The daily dose should not exceed more than 3 injections in each nasal passage.
The drug OTRIVIN is used for no more than 7 days without consulting a doctor.
It is recommended to stop treatment immediately after relief of symptoms, even if it happened earlier than 7 days (maximum duration of therapy), in order to minimize the risk of adverse events.
Long-term use of xylometazoline can cause swelling of the nasal mucosa and increased secretion, which is due to the development of increased sensitivity of cells to the active substances of the drug OTRIVIN complex, the so-called reverse effect.
1 injection (140 μl) of OTRIVIN complex Complex contains about 70 μg of xylometazoline hydrochloride and 84 μg of ipratropium bromide.
Use in the elderly: the experience of using the drug in patients over 70 years of age is limited.

Contraindications OTRIVIN complex:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, hypersensitivity to atropine or similar compounds (hyoscyamine, scopolamine), glaucoma, surgery on the membranes of the brain (in history), pregnancy (I trimester), atrophic rhinitis, age up to 18 years.
With care
Diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, angina pectoris III - IV functional class, obstruction of the bladder neck, prostatic hyperplasia. It is recommended to be careful in the treatment of patients prone to nosebleeds, dizziness, tremors of skeletal muscles, sleep disturbances, arrhythmias, increased blood pressure, paralytic bowel obstruction and patients with cystic fibrosis.
Side effects OTRIVIN complex:
From the immune system: frequency unknown - hypersensitivity.
From the nervous system: often - taste disturbance, headache; infrequently - impaired sense of smell, dizziness, tremor; very rarely - insomnia.
From the side of the organ of vision: infrequently - eye irritation, dry eyes; the frequency is unknown - increased intraocular pressure, mydriasis, eye pain, photopsia, deterioration in closed-angle glaucoma, impaired clarity of visual perception, dilated pupil, halo effect (the presence of rainbow circles in the field of view around the light source).
Heart disorders: infrequently - heart palpitations, supraventricular tachycardia; very rarely - an arrhythmic pulse; frequency unknown - atrial fibrillation.
From the respiratory system: very often - nosebleeds, irritation and / or dryness of the nasopharyngeal mucosa; often - a burning sensation, tingling sensation, sneezing, nasal hypersecretion; nasal congestion (with frequent and / or prolonged use of the drug), dry throat, sore throat, rhinalgia; infrequently - nasal ulcer, sneezing, throat pain, cough, dysphonia; rarely - a runny nose; the frequency is unknown - discomfort in the paranasal sinuses, spasm of the larynx, swelling of the pharynx.
From the digestive system: often - dry mouth; infrequently - dyspepsia, nausea; frequency unknown - difficulty swallowing.
On the part of the skin and subcutaneous tissues: the frequency is unknown - itching, skin rash, urticaria.
From the urinary system: the frequency is unknown - difficulty urinating.
General reactions: infrequently - discomfort, fatigue; frequency unknown - chest discomfort, thirst.

Before use, you must clean the nasal passages. Should not be used for a long time, for example, in chronic rhinitis.
Do not allow the drug OTRIVIN complex to come into contact with or around the eyes. In case of contact, temporary blurred vision, irritation, pain, redness of the eyes may be noted, and an exacerbation of angle-closure glaucoma may develop. If the drug OTRIVIN complex gets into your eyes, rinse your eyes with copious amounts of cold water and consult a doctor if you have eye pain or blurred vision.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms
When using Otrivin Complex, there have been cases of visual impairment (including blurred vision and dilated pupil), dizziness and fatigue. Patients should be warned that when such symptoms appear, they should refrain from driving vehicles, operating mechanisms, and also from performing actions in which such symptoms may entail a risk to the patients themselves and to other people.
