Pharmacological properties Ambroxol-Akrihin
Ambroxol is a drug that improves expectoration and thinning of mucus in the airways. This is due to its active metabolite, N-demethylated bromohexin. Ambroxol stimulates the secretory cells of the bronchial mucosa, which increases motor activity of the bronchial epithelium. It targets pneumocytes in the alveoli and Clara cells in the bronchioles. Another important effect of ambroxol is to increase production of a surfactant, which helps lubricate secretions in the airways. Ultimately, ambroxol helps remove sputum from the lungs, improving its structure and reducing viscosity. When ambroxol is taken by mouth, response usually occurs in 30 minutes and lasts 6 to 12 hours, depending on the dose taken.
Indications for use
Most airway disorders are accompanied by bothersome symptoms, such as secretion of viscous sputum and difficulty moving it away. They include acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma, bronchiectasis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Method of application Ambroxol-Akrihin
After eating and drinking enough fluids, the following dosages are recommended:
- Adults and children over 12 years of age are advised to take 1 tablet (30 mg of ambroxol) 3 times a day for the first 2-3 days of treatment, then the dose should be reduced to 1 tablet 2 times a day.
- Children aged 6 to 12 years are advised to take half a tablet (15 mg of ambroxol) 2-3 times a day.
How long treatment continues is determined by the doctor and depends on how severe the disorder is. However, the drug should not be taken for longer than 4 to 5 days without a doctor's consultation.
Increasing fluid intake is recommended to enhance mucolytic effects. Consequently, people should ingest sufficient amounts of fluids during treatment, such as juices, tea, and water.
