Pharmacological effect: anti-allergic agent, blocking H1-histamine receptors.
Chloropyramine is a chlorinated analog of tripelenamine (pyribenzamine) and belongs to the ethylenediamine group of antihistamines.
The drug blocks H1-histamine receptors, having an antihistamine and m-cholinergic effect. It has a mild antiemetic effect, moderate spasmolytic and peripheral cholinergic activity.
Pharmacokinetics Chloropyramine:
After ingestion, chloropyramine is almost completely absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract. Therapeutic effects appear 15 to 30 minutes after ingestion, peak within an hour, and persist for 3 to 6 hours. It is well distributed in body tissues, including the central nervous system.
Indications for use:
The drug is used for urticaria, serum disease, seasonal and year-round allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, contact dermatitis, skin itching, acute and chronic eczema, atopic dermatitis, food and drug allergies, allergic reactions to insect bites. It is also used as an adjunct for angiedema.
