Pharmacological effect Dimia

Dimia® is a combination hormonal contraceptive that has anti-mineralocorticoid and anti-androgenic effects. The contraceptive effect of combination oral contraceptives (COCs) is based on several factors, including suppression of ovulation and changes in the endometrium. Properly applied, the Perl index (number of pregnancies per 100 women per year) is less than 1. However, if pills are missed or not taken, the Perle index may increase.

For women taking COC, menstrual cycles become more regular, painful menstrual periods are reduced, and bleeding intensity and duration decrease, reducing the risk of anemia. COCs with a higher dose of estrogen (50 mcg of ethinyl estradiol) may reduce the risk of endometrial and ovarian cancer, although whether this is a low-dose drug is unknown.

The progestogen drospirenone in Dimia® has a weak antimineralocorticoid effect, preventing weight gain and edema due to estrogen-induced fluid retention. This makes the drug well tolerated. Drospirenone also has a positive effect on premenstrual syndrome (PMS), alleviating symptoms such as psycho-emotional disorders, breast engorgement, headache, muscle and joint pain, weight gain, and other menstrual cycle-related manifestations.

Drospirenone has antiandrogenic activity, contributing to a decrease in symptoms of acne (acne), skin and hair oiliness (seborrhea). Its action is similar to the natural progesterone produced by the body. It is important to note that drospirenone has no androgenic, estrogen, glucocorticoid, or antiglucocorticoid activity.

All these properties, combined with antimeralocorticoid and antiandrogenic activity, make drospirenone similar in biochemical and pharmacological profile to natural progesterone. In combination with ethinyl estradiol, drospirenone also has a beneficial effect on the lipid profile by increasing the plasma concentration of high-density lipoproteins (HDL).

Indications for use Dimia:

Prevent unwanted pregnancy.
Treatment of moderate acne (acne vulgaris)
Relief of symptoms of severe premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Instructions for use, course duration and dosage Dimia

The drug should be taken daily, at the same time, with a small amount of water. Reception scheme is indicated on the blister package. The course lasts 28 days, with one tablet taken daily. A new blister should start the day after the previous one.

Withdrawal bleeding usually begins on the second day after switching to hormone-free last-line tablets and may continue until new-pack tablets are taken. It is important to start a new blister on the same day of the week to keep bleeding that occurs on about the same dates each month regular.
