Instructions for Enzystal (Pancreatin)
Enzistal-P is a polyenzyme drug.
Pancreatin contains excretory enzymes of the pancreas - lipase, amylase, trypsin and chymotrypsin involved in the digestion of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Pancreatin is not absorbed in the digestive tract, but is excreted in the feces, and most of it is broken down and denatured in the digestive tract by the action of digestive juices and bacteria.
The decisive factor in its effectiveness is the enzymatic activity of lipase, as well as the action of trypsin, while amylolytic activity is only important in the treatment of cystic fibrosis, since even in chronic pancreatitis, the degradation of food polysaccharides occurs without disturbances.
Enzystal Indications for use:
Indications for the use of the drug Enzistal-P are:
dyspepsia, the simultaneous use of hard-to-digest vegetable, fatty and unusual food;
flatulence associated with the above disorders; acceleration of the passage of food in the intestine of a functional nature.
Enzystal Mode of application:
Adults and children aged 3 years and older usually take 1-2 tablets of Enzistal-P with meals, without chewing, drinking a sufficient amount of liquid, for example a glass of water.
Depending on the type of food consumed or on the severity of the digestive upset during meals, an additional 2-4 tablets are taken for the purpose of enzyme replacement therapy.
The dose of the drug can be changed and is set individually.
The duration of the use of the drug is determined by the doctor on an individual basis.
The daily dose of lipase should not exceed 15,000-20,000 OD.U.F. per kilogram of body weight.
Side effects Enzystal:
From the immune system: immediate allergic reactions (skin rash, sneezing, lacrimation, bronchospasm).
On the part of the digestive tract: in patients with cystic fibrosis, the formation of strictures was observed in the ileocecal region and the ascending part of the colon after the application of large doses of powder from the pancreas.
There have been reports of allergic reactions from the digestive tract (abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, changes in the nature of the stool).
From the side of the kidneys and urinary tract: in patients with cystic fibrosis, especially after using high doses of the drug, the excretion of uric acid in the urine may increase, therefore, in these patients, its level in the urine should be checked in order to prevent stone formation.
In rare cases, the appearance of reactions such as urticaria, skin flushing, itching, fever, tachycardia, weakness, angioedema has been reported.
Contraindications Enzystal:
Contraindications to the use of Enzistal-P are: hypersensitivity to pancreatic enzymes of animal origin or to one of the components of the drug.
Acute pancreatitis or exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis, however, an episodic appointment is possible in the attenuation phase with the expansion of the diet, if there are signs of residual or existing dysfunction of the pancreas. Obstructive intestinal obstruction.
Pregnancy
The use of the drug Enzistal-P during pregnancy and lactation is possible if, in the opinion of the doctor, the expected positive effect for the mother outweighs the potential risk for the fetus / child.
Interaction with other medicinal products
The use of medicines containing powder from the pancreas can lead to a decrease in the absorption of folic acid, which may require additional intake.
The effect of oral antidiabetic agents, such as acarbose and miglitol, may be reduced with the simultaneous use of Enzistal-P .
Enzystal Overdose:
Increased side effects are possible.
During extremely high doses of other pancreatin preparations, hyperuricemia and hyperuricosuria were observed. Treatment is symptomatic.
