Pharmacological effect Festal
Festal® replenishes the deficiency of enzymes of the pancreas and biliary tract. It is composed of pancreatin and bile acids, which provide proteolytic, amylolytic and lipolytic action. Pancreatine enzymes—amylase, lipase, and protease—promote the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, improving their absorption in the small intestine. The bile acids included in the drug help correct biliary insufficiency, which often accompanies chronic pancreatitis. They have a choleretic effect, facilitate the absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins A, E and K, and stimulate the production of lipase by the pancreas. Hemicellulase in the composition of Festal® promotes the breakdown of plant fiber, improves digestion and reduces gas production in the intestine.
Indications for use Festal
Festal® is given for deficiency of extracellular function of the pancreas, which often occurs in chronic pancreatitis and is accompanied by biliary insufficiency. It manifests with digestive disorders, flatulence, and a tendency to constipate.
The drug is also used in complex therapy for pancreatin:
Diffuse liver disorders, such as alcoholic and toxic lesions, and cirrhosis of the liver
Large bile acid losses in patients after cholecystectomy
Bile acid circulation disorders due to biliary dyskinesia, dysbacteriosis, and malabsorption
Disorders of neurohumoral regulation of biliary formation and biliary function in chronic gastrointestinal diseases, including chronic gastritis, duodenitis, and cholecystitis.
Festal® helps improve digestion in people with normal GI function if they have made mistakes in nutrition, have problems with mastication, prolonged immobilization, or are sedentary. The drug is also used to prepare for X-rays and ultrasonography
