Pharmacological effect

Kreon® 10000 is an enzyme drug that helps improve digestion in adults and children. It effectively reduces symptoms of pancreatic enzyme deficiency, such as abdominal pain, flatulence, and altered frequency and consistency of stool.

The preparation contains pork pancreatin, which is represented as acid-resistant shell mini-microspheres enclosed in gelatinous capsules. The capsules dissolve rapidly in the stomach, releasing many of the mini-spheres. This allows them to ingest food at the same time, where they are thoroughly mixed with intestinal contents, ensuring an even distribution of enzymes.

Indications for use Kreon

  • Kreon is used for replacement therapy when exocrine pancreatic function is inadequate. The condition can be caused by a variety of GI disorders, including
  • Cystic fibrosis.
  • Chronic pancreatitis.
  • Pancreatic surgery.
  • Gastrectomy.
  • Pancreatic cancer.
  • Partial gastric resection (eg, by Bilrot II method)
  • Obstruction of pancreatic ducts or common bile duct (eg, due to a tumor)
  • Schwachmann-Diamond syndrome.
  • Period after acute pancreatitis and restoration of nutrition.

It is also used to improve digestion in patients with normal pancreatic function, particularly when eating errors such as fatty foods, overeating, or irregular feeding.

Mode of application, course and dosage Kreon

The drug is intended for oral administration. The dosage is selected individually depending on the severity of the disease and the peculiarities of nutrition.
Capsules should be taken during or after each meal, including light snacks. They should be swallowed whole, without breaking and chewing, drinking enough fluids.

If the patient has difficulty swallowing (eg, in young children or older adults), capsules can be gently opened, and the microspheres can be mixed with soft foods that do not require chewing and have an acidic taste (pH < 5.5). They can also be taken with acidic beverages (pH < 5.5). For example, minimicrospheres can be added to apple puree, yogurt, or fruit juice (apple, orange, pineapple) with a pH of less than 5.5. Mixing the contents of the capsules with hot food is not recommended.

Any mixture of mini-microspheres with food or liquid shall be used immediately after preparation and shall not be stored.
