Pharmacological properties:
A combination drug for topical use in otorhinolaryngology. The therapeutic effect of the Polydexa preparation is due to the anti-inflammatory action of dexamethasone and the antimicrobial action of the antimicrobial neomycin and polymyxin B. With the combination of these antimicrobial, the spectrum of antimicrobial action is expanded to most gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms that cause infectious-inflammatory diseases of the middle ear.
Neomycin is active against S. aureus, E. coli, K. pneumoniae, H. influenzae. Polymyxin B is active mainly against gram-negative bacteria: E. coli, K. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, P. aeruginosa. Streptococcus spp., including pneumococci and anaerobic bacteria, are resistant to these antimicrobial
In the absence of damage to the eardrum, Polydexa is not resorbed and has no systemic effect.
Indications:
- External otitis
- in particular infected eczema of the external auditory canal
- acute middle otitis without damage to the eardrum.
Application:
Adults - 1-5 drops per ear 2 times a day for 6-10 days; children - 1-2 drops in each ear 2 times a day for 6-10 days. Before using ear drops, it is recommended to warm the bottle, holding it in your hand, in order to avoid unpleasant feelings caused by the ingress of cold liquid into the ear.
Contraindications:
Infectious or traumatic injuries of the tympanic membrane, increased sensitivity to one of the components of the drug Polydexa.
Side effects:
Rarely - skin-allergic reactions; if the integrity of the eardrum is violated, the risk of toxic effects on the auditory and vestibular apparatus.
Special instructions:
Before starting treatment, it is necessary to examine the condition of the eardrum. When the eardrum is breached, the use of the drug Polydexa is unacceptable, since serious complications (deafness, vestibular disorders) can develop. Do not inject under pressure.
The presence of a corticosteroid in the composition of the drug does not prevent the development of skin manifestations of antimicrobial allergies, but can change the clinical picture of an allergic reaction. With an allergy to neomycin, cross-allergy with aminoglycoside antimicrobial is possible.
