Pharmacological effect
Symprazole® is a combination drug with antimicrobial and antitosocial properties. It contains two active ingredients: ornidazole (a 5-nitroimidazole derivative) and ciprofloxacin (a fluoroquinolone derivative of the 2nd generation).
Ornidazole is effective against various protozoa such as Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica, and Giardia lamblia (also known as Giardia intestinalis), as well as some anaerobic bacteria (Bacteroides spp., Clostridium spp., Fusobacterium spp.) and anaerobic cocci (Peptostreptococcus spp., Peptococcus spp.).
Ciprofloxacin is a broad-spectrum synthetic antibiotic from the fluoroquinolone group. It has a high activity of in vitro against multiple gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. The bactericidal effect of ciprofloxacin is due to inhibition of bacterial topoisomerases type II (DNA gyrases) and topoisomerase IV. These enzymes are essential for the replication, transcription, repair, and recombination of bacterial DNA.
Symprazole® is indicated for mixed bacterial infections caused by susceptible gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria in association with anaerobic organisms, protozoa, or both. These infections include infections in the abdomen and biliary tract, as well as in the kidneys (pyelonephritis) and/or complicated urinary tract infections. The drug is effective in diseases of the genital organs and pelvic organs, such as adnexitis, prostatitis and epididymitis.
When using Symprazole® it is necessary to follow current national recommendations for the rational use of antibiotics. It is also important to take into account the sensitivity data of pathogens prevalent in a given region.
