Pharmacological properties Tenoric
The combination antihypertensive drug has a long-lasting effect on lowering blood pressure. This is due to the interaction of two active substances: beta-1-adrenergic blocker (atenolol) and diuretic (chlorthalidone).
Atenolol is a selective beta1-blocker, its selectivity decreases as the dose is increased. It exhibits no intrinsic sympathomimetic activity and no membrane stabilizing effect. Like other beta-blockers, it reduces heart contractility and heart rate.
Chlorthalidone is a nonthiazide sulfonamide-type diuretic that promotes the excretion of sodium and chlorine. It also increases urinary potassium, magnesium, and bicarbonate levels. The mechanism of its antihypertensive action is most likely related to excretion of sodium. The combination of atenolol and diuretics provides a greater decrease in pressure than does its use alone.
The action lasts up to 24 hours after a one-time reception.
Testimony Tenoric
Hypertension.
Method of application and dosage
The recommended dose for adults is 100 mg, with an initial dose of 50 mg once a day. Usually the dose of 100 mg of atenolol is beneficial; increasing the dose rarely results in a significant drop in blood pressure. Dosing should be adjusted in older patients and in people with impaired renal function. Progressive withdrawal after prolonged use is mandatory.
