Instructions for Terbisil (Terbinafine) cream 1% 15 gr

Pharmacological properties

terbinafine ((E) -N- (6,6-dimethyl-2-hepten-4-inyl) -N-methyl-1-naphthalenemethylamine hydrochloride) is an antifungal preparation of the broad-spectrum allylamine group. It suppresses the biosynthesis of fungal membrane sterins by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, which leads to intracellular accumulation of squalene and death of the fungal cell.

Terbinafine, even at low concentrations, has a fungicidal effect on dermatophytes, dimorphic and some mold fungi. The effect on yeast fungi (e.g. Candida) may be fungicidal or fungistatic depending on the strain of the fungus.
When applied topically, ≤5% of terbinafine is absorbed, so its systemic effect is insignificant.

Indications:

Skin infections caused by trichophytes (T. rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, T. verrucosum, T. violaceum, etc.), as well as microspores (M. canis, M. gypseum, etc.) and Epidermophyton floccosum; skin infections caused by fungi of the genus Candida; mycosis of the scalp; multicolored lichen caused by Malassezia furfur.

Application:

The cream is applied, slightly rubbed, on the affected area and adjacent healthy skin (pre-cleaned and dry) with a thin layer 1-2 times a day. On the skin areas under the mammary glands, between the fingers, in gluteal and inguinal folds, it is recommended to apply the cream under the bandage. The duration of therapy is determined by the nature and severity of the disease.

Contraindications:

Increased sensitivity to drug components.

Side effects:

Skin hyperemia, itching or burning sensation at the site of application of the cream are possible, which usually do not require withdrawal of the drug. With the development of allergic reactions, Terbizil must be canceled.

Special instructions:

Due to the small amount of data on the safety of use of the cream in children, it should be prescribed only when the expected positive effect exceeds the potential risk.
The cream is intended only for external use, it cannot be applied to the mucous membranes. When the cream gets into the eyes, it is necessary to wash them with a large amount of water.
