Pharmacological effect Thioctacid:

Metabolic drug. Thiotic (α-lipoic) acid is found in the human body, where it acts as a coenzyme in the oxidative phosphorylation reactions of pyruvic acid and alpha-keto acids. Thiotic acid is an endogenous antioxidant, and is biochemically similar to B-group vitamins.

Thiotic acid helps protect the cell from the toxic effects of free radicals that occur in metabolism; it also defuses exogenous toxic compounds that have entered the body. Thiotic acid increases the concentration of the endogenous antioxidant glutathione, which leads to a reduction in the expression of symptoms of polyneuropathy.

The preparation has a hepatoprotective, hypolipidemic, hypocholesterolemic, hypoglycemic effect; improves neuronal trophic. The synergistic action of thiotic acid and insulin results in an increase in glucose utilization.
