Antiseptic for topical use in ophthalmology
pharmachologic effect:
the macrolide group. Has a bacteriostatic effect. However, in high doses, it has a bactericidal effect against sensitive microorganisms. Erythromycin reversibly binds to bacterial ribosomes, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis.
Effective against sensitive microorganisms that cause superficial eye infections of the corneal conjunctiva, incl. for Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis.
Indications Erythromycin:
Infectious and inflammatory eye diseases caused by sensitive microorganisms: conjunctivitis (including in newborns), body blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, meibomitis; as part of the complex therapy of bacterial keratitis, chlamydial conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, trachoma; Prevention of neonatal blennorrhea.
Method of application, course and dosage:
Applied topically - the drug is placed in the lower eyelid. The dose, frequency and duration of use are determined individually.
Application during pregnancy and lactation:
crosses the placental barrier and is excreted in breast milk.
When using during pregnancy, the intended benefit to the mother and the potential risk to the fetus should be assessed.
If necessary, use during lactation should decide on the termination of breastfeeding.
Side effect Erythromycin:
Local reactions: hyperemia, irritation of the mucous membrane of the eye, blurred vision, allergic reactions.
Contraindications for use:
History of jaundice, severe liver and kidney dysfunction, hypersensitivity to macrolides.
Carefully
Elderly patients, mild to moderate hepatic and renal dysfunction.
