Instructions for SULGIN (Sulfaguanidine)
Sulgin is an antimicrobial bacteriostatic agent. The mechanism of action is due to antagonism with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and competitive inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase, which leads to disruption of the synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid, which is necessary for the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines. Inhibits the growth of Escherichia coli and reduces the synthesis of thiamine, riboflavin, nicotinic acid in the intestine. SULGIN has a bacteriostatic effect on Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae, Proteus vulgaris. SULGIN
Pharmacokinetics:
After oral administration, the drug is slightly absorbed from the digestive tract, resulting in a high bacteriostatic concentration in the intestine.
SULGIN Indications for use:
- Indications for the use of the drug Sulgin are
- bacterial dysentery
- colitis and enterocolitis
- preparation for colon surgery.
SULGIN Mode of application:
In acute dysentery, 2 courses of treatment with Sulgin are carried out .
The first course: on days 1 and 2 - 1 g every 4 hours (total 6 g / day), 3 and 4 days - 1 g every 6 hours (4 g / day), 5 and 6 days - 1 g every 8 hours ( 3 g / day). Others: hypovitaminosis B, leukopenia, neuritis.
Contraindications:
Contraindications to the use of the drug Sulgin are: hypersensitivity to the components of the drug or other sulfonamides, deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, nephrourolithiasis, porphyria, B12-deficiency anemia, pregnancy, lactation, children under 3 years of age, hyperbilirubinemia (in children).
Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a contraindication to the use of the drug Sulgin.
Interaction with other medicinal products
Sulgin reduces the reliability of oral contraception.
Benzocaine, procaine reduce the antimicrobial activity (PABA is released during hydrolysis).
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, hypoglycemic drugs (sulfonylurea derivatives), phenytoin and indirect anticoagulants increase the severity of side effects of the drug.
Ascorbic acid, hexamethylenetetramine increase the risk of crystalluria.
Myelotoxic drugs increase the manifestations of the drug's hematotoxicity.
