Instructions for Fenistil (Dimetindene)
Pharmacological properties Fenistil:
Dimetindene maleate is a derivative of phenindene, is a histamine antagonist at the level of Н1 -receptors. It has an anti-kinin, weak anticholinergic and sedative effect. It has no anti-emetic effect. Reduces the increased permeability of capillaries associated with immediate allergic reactions.
In combination with histamine Н2 receptor antagonists, it inhibits almost all types of histamine action on the circulatory system.
The bioavailability of dimethindene in droplet form is about 70%. After ingestion, the maximum concentration in the blood plasma is reached for 2 hours. The half-life is about 6 hours.
At concentrations of 0.09 to 2 μg/ml, the binding of dimethindene to blood plasma proteins is about 90%.
Metabolic reactions include hydroxylation and methoxylation. Dimetindene and its metabolites are excreted with bile and urine. 5-10% of the accepted dose of the preparation is excreted with urine in an unchanged state.
Indications Fenistil:

Interactions Fenistil:
When taken together, it is possible to mutual increase the sedation of Fenistil drops and CNS-suppressing drugs Fenistil, such as tranquilizers, sleeping pills and alcohol. With simultaneous alcohol consumption, a more pronounced slowdown in the rate of psychomotor reactions is possible.
When taken together with MAO inhibitors, it is possible to increase the anticholinergic activity of antihistamines, as well as increase their oppressive effect on the CNS; therefore, their combined use is not recommended. Tricyclic antidepressants and anticholinergics, when combined with antihistamines, may have additional anticholinergic effects.
