Pharmacological effect Almagel A:

Almagel A neutralizes free hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which leads to a reduction in digestion activity of gastric juice. It does not cause secondary gastric acid hypersecretion. It has local anesthetic, adsorbing and enveloping effect, reduces influence of damaging factors on mucous membrane.
The therapeutic effect after taking the drug occurs in three to five minutes and lasts for an average of 70 minutes.

Almagel A provides long-term local neutralization of continuously separating gastric juice and reduces its hydrochloric acid content to optimal limits for treatment. Aluminum hydroxide suppresses pepsin secretion, neutralizes hydrochloric acid, forming aluminum chloride, which in the alkaline environment of the intestine is converted into alkaline aluminum salts. Magnesium hydroxide also neutralizes hydrochloric acid by converting it into magnesium chloride. This counteracts the aluminium hydroxide effect that causes constipation. Magnesium hydroxide and magnesium chloride are slightly resorbable and have little effect on the concentration of magnesium ions in the blood.
Benzocaine has an effective and long-lasting local pain-relieving effect in the case of a pronounced pain syndrome.
