Clinical and pharmacological group
Antibacterial preparation for topical application in ophthalmology, belonging to the group of fluoroquinolones.
Active substance Ciprolet
Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride.
Pharmacotherapeutic group
Fluoroquinolones are antimicrobials.
Pharmacological effect Ciprolet
The preparation relates to fluoroquinolones and has a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. It blocks the activity of the bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme that is responsible for the superhelization of DNA necessary for DNA replication. This process disrupts DNA synthesis, slows bacterial growth and growth, and causes significant changes in bacterial structure, including damage to cell walls and membranes. As a result, the bacteria die.
The drug has a bactericidal effect against gram-negative microorganisms both at rest and during division. This is due to the fact that it affects not only the DNA gyrase, but also the process of cell wall lysis. For gram-positive bacteria, the drug is effective only during cell division. The toxicity to host cells is low because the cells lack DNA gyrase.
