Pharmacological effect Cifran OD

fluoroquinolones are caused by the ability to suppress the activity of a bacterial enzyme called topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase). Topoisomerase II is required for normal DNA replication in bacteria. The absence of this enzyme leads to uncontrolled replication of the damaged DNA and thus to defective synthesis of normal proteins within the bacterial cell.

The antimicrobial spectrum of ciprofloxacin is broad and covers many gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, as established by in vitro experimental studies as well as clinical observations. Ciprofloxacin affects both active and dormant reproducing organisms. This drug is active against most strains of the following microorganisms.
